Over on Gamerscore Blog, a list has been posted with all of the games being shown at E3 that will be available this year. Xbox 360 games, Xbox Live Arcade games, Games for Windows-branded titles, and Games for Windows Live-enabled games. It’s a lot to digest, and with big name games like BioShock, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Guitar Hero III, Sonic the Hedgehog (the original, don’t worry), Puzzle Quest, Company of Heroes: Opposing Forces… let’s just say there’s something for nearly everyone.

E3 2007: Golden Axe, Sonic The Hedgehog On Live, Marathon 2 And More On The Way
Posted by Kyle Ulrich Categories: Action, Bungie, E3, First Person Shooters, Release Dates, Retro, SEGA, Xbox Live Arcade
Announced during Microsoft’s press conference not long ago, Genesis classics Sonic The Hedgehog and Golden Axe are now available for Live Arcade. Sweetening the surprise is the pricing; they’ll only cost you five bucks (400 Microsoft Points) each, exactly three dollars less than their $8 Wii Virtual Console counterparts. Sega’s giving 360 owners a discount.
Also announced via the same Live Arcade footage reel was Marathon: Durandal. Development is being outsourced to Freeverse, a smaller Mac-focused outfit who’ve decided to remove the “2” in the games title. This is no mere re-branding: what was shown reveals a major visual overhaul. All of the games sprites and textures have been re-painted, resulting in a more polished version of what staunch Mac addicts got down on twelve years ago. No price or release details, but it’ll have a good home when it arrives: a Bungie classic reborn should sit well with the audience.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend E3 this year – instead, I’m on vacation in Cape Cod, using awful hotel Wi-Fi to watch streamed press conferences. Not the most glamorous way to take it all in, but exciting announcements, great games and new details are welcome no matter how you hear about them.
Here’s my personal transcription (in very brief form) of all the announcements and showings, along with some reflection on what Microsoft had to show.

Virtual Console 6/25, 6/18, And 6/11: Okay, We Missed A Few Weeks
Posted by Chris Pereira Categories: Nintendo, Retro, Virtual Console, Wii
Things happen, and sometimes we miss things. But, in case you weren’t paying attention, let’s pretend like there are nine new Virtual Console games available today! Wow! Yet somehow the number of good games in there equates to about one per week… for shame, Nintendo. We gave you three weeks to get us the goods, and we only get THREE good games at most? Let’s take a look at the list:
- F-Zero X
- Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
- China Warrior
- Lode Runner
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Golden Axe II
- NES Open Tournament Golf
- World Sports Competition
- Bloody Wolf
Given their prices, there aren’t even three games in their worth their price tags. But at least I can feel like I’m playing a good Sonic game, which is a rarity these days.
Details for all of the games after the break.

Sonics Rivals 2 Announced; Sonic Games Can’t Get Any Worse, Can They?
Posted by Chris Pereira Categories: Action, PSP, SEGA
The original Sonic Rivals game for PSP wasn’t particularly well-received, but it certainly faired better than the recent 360 and PS3 Sonic outing. Sometimes I wonder if Sega is deliberately trying to smash the beloved series into the ground. Seriously, outside of Sonic Rush there hasn’t been a good Sonic game in many years.
But there is some promise for Sonic Rivals 2. Sega has already laid out the framework, so hopefully things can be fleshed out and developed more – the original was pretty unrefined and didn’t have many stages. SR2 will have plenty of unlockables, as well as game sharing multiplayer features. Unfortunately, though, it doesn’t look like online play will be an option.
Here’s to hoping we get a half-decent Sonic game when Sonic Rivals 2 is released this fall. God knows we’ve earned one.
Mario And Sonic Finally Meet
Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Culture, Nintendo, Nintendo DS, SEGA, Sports, Wii

Nintendo and Sega today announced that two icons of past console wars, Mario and Sonic, will be teaming up for a licensed game set at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Titled Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, the new title will be available exclusively on the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS. No official pricing or launch date was set for the titles, but additional details have been revealed in an interview held between Sega and Nintendo representatives and N’Gai Croal at the Level Up blog. While the interview tends to focus a little more on the rivalry between the two companies, a few nuggets of development information can be found. First, while Sega will apparently be handling the development of the game, Shigeru Miyamoto will be overseeing the development process to some degree. Also, Sega’s Sonic Team apparently will not be involved, which may be a good thing given the spectacularly bad reviews that Sonic on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 received. This mascot match-up has been a long time coming; here’s hoping it lives up to the hype.
Nintendo and Sega’s press release continues after the jump.

The Most Ruined Game Franchises Ever
Posted by Michael Cardiff Categories: CAPCOM, Eidos, Retro, SEGA
Games Radar has a really interesting and insightful piece about the games that, in their words “had it, and lost it”. Just think Tomb Raider, and you’ve got the idea - these are the games that were fresh, original, and fun, until their producers started hastily making hundreds of sequels and ruining the franchise.
This is a great read, and somebody who obviously knows their games. I shed a little tear for each of the titles on this list.

PS3 Launch Titles See Delays
Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Action, First Person Shooters, Role Playing Games, Rumors, SEGA
It is looking like Sony’s Playstation 3 launch may be missing a few titles; Bethesda Softworks recently announced that Elder Scrolls: Oblivion has been pushed back to 2007, according to a report from GameSpot. In addition, rumors have Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog also being delayed to 2007 along with Vivendi Universal’s F.E.A.R. Other titles could potentially miss the launch window at this point, but with so few consoles shipping software availability would seem to be the last thing on Sony’s mind.
