Lair Playable on PSP Via Remote Play

A and owner has discovered that Liar is playable via the PS3’s Remote Play feature on the PSP. This is the first time a based game is able to take advantage of the feature and is reportedly quite responsive and playable. It has even been suggested that in light of all the flak Lair has taken over its controls, the use of the PSP’s analog stick is actually preferable.

What’s most curious about the revelation is that it is a revelation at all. This sounds like something would have jumped all over, especially once the disappointing reviews started pouring in.

PSP Firmware 3.00 Offers “Remote Play” With PS3

XMB Sony recently released the 3.00 firmware update for the PSP, and the main feature added is support for “Remote Play” on the Playstation 3. This firmware will allow gamers to download Playstation 1 games to the PSP through the Playstation 3 online store, but it also adds media streaming to the PSP. Game|Life took a quick pass at the new firmware, and highlighted some of the features implemented. Gamers can access the PS3 Cross Media Bar and view movies, pictures, and music from the hard drive of the PS3, or other external media devices.

Internet play is not supported at this point; that feature may be added later, but for now, the connection is made via an ad-hoc wireless network connection. PS3 game playing isn’t functional either, and the ad-hoc connection can not be used as a wireless access point. Still, it seems like the feature does have potential, and when PS1 games become available it will be interesting to see how well the games play in emulation.

Playstation 3 A report from 1up indicates that Sony will have a software update for the Playstation 3 available at launch day in Japan. According to 1up, the update unlocks Playstation Network services for the console, and a future updates for both the Playstation 3 and the PSP will enable some security features and Playstation 3 and PSP interaction. When the later update hits, PSP users will be able to download PSP games from the Playstation Store via the PS3 and transfer them to the PSP and the “remote play” feature will be enabled. While consumers may be surprised to have to apply a system update out of the box, PSP users should be used to this by now and this generally appears to be part of Sony’s strategy as they slowly add features and usability to the console over its lifetime.
