GameStop Wii MotionPlus rip-off

If you are in the market for the , just make sure you stay away from GameStop. Why? Because they are charging you $5 more than any other retailer we’ve found that sells the device. Nintendo lists the Wii MotionPlus at a suggested retail price of $19.99. While it is just a suggestion, retails chains typically follow the suggested price. However, GameStop is charging $24.99 for the device. Save yourself $5, and buy the Wii MotionPlus at Amazon, cool?

Five Awesome Games You Can Play on the Cheap

Posted by Alex Lifschitz Categories: Culture, Editorial, Hot Deals, PC, Xbox 360

Money

Now that we’re over the holiday hump (i.e. every game imaginable being released at the same time, oh god, why do you do this to me), a lot of sites and publications have been putting together lists of games to look forward to in the new year. Me? Nuh-uh. I don’t have the cash for that. Fallout and Dead Space alone have depleted my gaming funds for a while (not to mention a certain 360 dying enough times for me to wish ill on its relatives), and if you’re like me, you want a cheap alternative until your funds recover. Hell, even if you don’t need it, you can’t pass up a quality gaming experience on the cheap, but being a penny-pinching bastard like myself tends to help heal those imaginary wounds. So, I’ve decided to put together a list of a few old-but-still-awesome games that you can get for slightly less than the cost of a night with your mom, though they’ll probably last far longer.

You may want to note that some of these games are older and may stutter and wobble and spurt blood if you’re running more than Windows XP, so you may want to check your compatibility before you plunk down the green to have them downloaded to your inferior operating system, muahaha. Hit the jump for the rundown.

Wii shortages continue, Nintendo partners with GameStop on rain check program

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Corporate News, Hardware, Nintendo, Wii

Wii shortagesI just got off a press call with of America President Reggie Fils-Aime where the focus was on the availability of the console. Reggie made it clear that Nintendo never expected the success that Wii has been enjoying since launch, and therefore has remained hard to find despite ramped up production. Nintendo is hoping to help out just a bit with a couple of short-term initiatives.

Gamestop Offering 360 Elite Trade-In, Hasn’t Thought It Through

Duh!Gamestop, always looking to keep their inventory of used systems and games well-stocked, will be taking the Xbox 360 Core, Xbox 360 Platinum, and original Xbox as trade-in credit towards purchase of a new Xbox 360 Elite (or other purchase). Thus sayeth Kotaku.com and other games websites in the area.

According to Kotaku, you’ll also be able to get a better trade-in deal on your used console… the Xbox 360 Platinum will get you $250 (normally $190), Core packs get you $200 (normally $140), and the lowly original black Xbox will get you $50. That all sounds like a pretty good trade-in deal for a new 360 ‘l33t, but we’ve gotta wonder how exactly Gamestop is hoping to help the droves of Premium owners that want to transfer their data from the 20GB drive to the Elite’s 120GB drive… will you have to sit there and wait for them to do it in-store? Or will they let you keep your 20GB drive for a deposit? Or will they somehow use the magic of the internets’ pipes to get your 20GB worth of Elder Scrolls saves and Xbox Marketplace purchases to you? What’s the deal here? So far, we’re waiting for details on how exactly this operation is going to work. My money is on “not smoothly”.

PSP Core System Now $169.99

Posted by Michael Cardiff Categories: Hardware, PSP, Release Dates, Rumors

PSP Price Drop SignStop the presses! It seems that Sony has finally taken notice that their latest console iterations aren’t selling all that well. While rumors of an impending PS3 price drop are just that, rumors, Joystiq.com has recently uncovered evidence that Sony’s PSP Core Pack will be discounted at Gamestop by $$30 to $169.99, in an effort to boost sales.

Will this price drop be the lift that the ailing handheld needs? Or is this too little too late for Sony’s feature-rich, games-poor handheld? We’ll have to wait to find out, but $169.99 is already sounding to us like a much better impulse-buy price point.

Gamestop - Trade in PS2 For $100 Off A PS3

Description

Gamestop’s obviously got some PS3’s in stock, and they’re looking to get rid of them. Their most recent deal offers you $100 off a PS3 (either the 20GB “crippled” version or the 60GB hotness) if you trade in your PS2, a second PS2 controller, and a PS2 8MBB memory card. If you’ve got a second PS2 lying around for those times when you’re getting the infamous “disc read error”, then this might be a good deal. But until Nyko releases their USB-to-PS2 controller adapter, you might want to hold off… the lack of complete backwards compatibility and the lack of PS2 ports for games like Guitar Hero might leave you with an empty feeling inside.

Rumor: Saints Row Coming to PS3?

Posted by Michael Cardiff Categories: Action, PlayStation 3, Rumors, THQ

PS3 Saints Row?

EBGames/Gamestop’s website is quickly becoming the source of choice for new game rumors that end up being true. So when their website listed Saints Row for the PS3 and then quickly took it down, it set off quite a buzz. Now keep in mind, Gamestop probably has their fair share of bad web programmers and crappy database administrators working for them, so this could all just be a simple mix-up of placing the game under the wrong console. But if we didn’t fan the flames of interesting rumors, we wouldn’t be good bloggers, now would we??!

GameStop’s Holiday Sales Top $1.7 Billion

GameStop It looks like enforced bundles of the Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii, along with strong holiday sales have boosted GameStops financials, as the company raised guidance for their fourth quarter and full year results. GameStop reports that total sales for the holiday season reached $1.73 billion. The top five video game releases for the holiday season were:

  • Gears of War
  • Final Fantasy XII
  • Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
  • Guitar Hero II
  • WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2007

Interestingly, no Playstation 3 title made the list, but two Playstation 2 titles did, along with one Xbox 360 release, one combination Wii/Gamecube release, and one multi-platform title in Smackdown. Console shortages might have limited the revenue that the company received from next generation releases, but this would seem to be one more data point indicating that the Playstation 2 will still be a sales monster into the coming year.

GameStop Unable To Meet Pre-Order PS3 Demand

Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: PlayStation 3

GameStop Gamers hoped that when GameStop placed a limited number of Playstation 3 systems available for pre-order that the small amount allocated would prevent last year’s Xbox 360 debacle from repeating itself. Now, Gamespot is reporting that the game retailer will be unable to fulfill existing pre-order allocations on launch day. GameSpot is still fairly confident that they will be able to cover pre-orders for the console before Christmas. The company will also provide a free used game or DVD priced at $19.99 or less when the pre-order is actually fulfilled, a small consolation to those gamers that thought they were set for launch day.
