Japan’s Black Wii Box
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Culture, Nintendo, Special Editions, Wii,
Continuing the trend of Japanese gamers getting the premium Nintendo goods while us in the US just get to watch, Nintendo is set to release a black Wii over in the Land of the Rising Sun. Sure, it’s the same console, but the Wii and WiiMote are a shiny black, rather than the glossy white we are all used to. Oh, and here’s the box. The black Wii hits Japan store shelves on August 1.

Microsoft just hit us with news that they have released the final box art for the upcoming Halo Wars title, and we figured that you would appreciate us filling you in. Here it is, in all its glory. This is done by the same team that did the Halo 2 and Halo 3 artworks. While we don’t yet have a release date for the game, we do know that you should be able to get your hands on Halo Wars in the first half of 2009.

Halo 3 Limited Edition Case Revealed
Posted by Chris Pereira Categories: Bungie, Microsoft, Special Editions, Xbox 360,
The so called “Limited” Edition (limited to the number of them they can sell, no doubt) of Halo 3 has had its case unveiled, and I’ve gotta say – it looks pretty sweet. Sweet to the point where I considered changing my plans to purchase the Legendary Edition. For only $70 – $10 more than the standard edition, and $60 less than the Legendary Edition – you’ll receive a copy of the game, a bonus disc with all sorts of goodies, and a Halo fiction and art book. There was an erroneous picture floating around the internet that showed a second game disc, but this was proven to be a mistake on Microsoft’s end. Bungie.net’s Frankie explains the error:
The Collector’s Edition picture erroneously shows that it ships with a Bonus Content disc and a Game Two disc. Incorrect. It’s a mistake at MS’ end and we’re updating retailers with the correct image. The “Game Disc 2” shown in the art actually refers to an interactive Bonus Content disc. It’s an Xbox “executable” (think of it like a menu-driven disc, similar to the Official Xbox Magazine cover disc) and internally, has always been referred to as “Game Disc 2” because it has to go through the same certification process as Halo 3 itself. That was somehow communicated to MS retail marketing verbatim. Hence the error. No big deal.
It actually is a pretty complicated situation, so check after the break for the full explanation and list of contents for each Halo 3 SKU.

Black Xbox 360 Box Art Leaked?
Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Hardware, Rumors, Xbox 360,
Playfeed’s parent blog, Gear Live, has gotten a hold of some internal images of a limited edition black Xbox 360 console with HDMI support, which would seem to confirm the recent rumors on the Internet about a black Xbox 360 release. These rumors originally had the release timed to counter the Playstation 3 launch in Europe and Australia, but an actual release date at this time is unknown. The box art reportedly mentions that the new console includes three USB 2.0 ports and an HDMI port, but has no mention of the hard drive size. Still, the mythical HDMI-enabled Xbox 360 looks to be getting closer and closer to becoming a reality.

Wii Box Images Surface Online
Posted by Christopher Sasaki Categories: Wii,
New US box images for Nintendo’s Wii console have been placed online by the Wiixors blog. The shots are taken from a box from a local EBGames, and show off some of the included items in the retail box from Nintendo. The box has logos for Dolby Pro Logic II (as the GameCube supported), Opera, and RSA security. According to the images, the Wii retail package will include the console, stand, Wii remote, Nunchuck, sensor bar, AC adapter, a standard AV cable, and something called the Wii Startup Disc. It is unclear what will be on the disc; speculation on the Internet suggested that the Wii may have a firmware update included out of the box for changes that have been made since manufacturing began, or it may include system restore software to allow users to reset their Wii to the default state.

First PS3 Box Art Surfaces, Surprise: Scantily Clad Women
Posted by Michael Cardiff Categories: Action, Corporate News, PlayStation 3, Screenshots,
There you have it folks, the first shot of Playstation 3 box art for the upcoming Dark Kingdom, complete with boobs, swords, and the strange PS3 Spiderman font! With pictures like this, it’s enough to make you wonder why the PS3 needs such amazing cloth physics - everybody’s going to be wearing skin-tight leather anyway!!! Plus, is it me, or does having the PS3 logo along the side bring back fond memories of ye olde Genesis game packaging? It’ll be interesting to see if Sony tries to squeeze PS3 games into the same ridiculously-thin boxes that Blu-Ray discs use - if I had to guess, it doesn’t look like there’s enough room in those for a meaty instruction manual.
Can’t wait to see these on store shelves! (And more importantly, I especially can’t wait to see what the price is!)
