Sega just launched a teaser page, called “Jackpot,” and they aren’t really telling what it’s all about. The page features a simple Flash unit that has a clickable handle and a tumbler full of lottery-type numbered balls. You click the handle, and out come six balls numbered 0-4-2-0-4-5. I tried again a few minutes later, and got 0-4-2-0-4-0, and then 0-4-2-0-3-9. Some sort of countdown timer? If so, it ends on Tuesday at about 10:00 AM EDT. Comic-Con anyone? Give us your best guess as to what Sega Jackpot is all about.

This has to be the ultimate gift for anyone who couldn’t get over their first game system. Never got over Sonic the Hedgehog? Blaze has announced that it is releasing a new version of Sega’s classic console. The Mega Drive is plug and play, has 15 games built-in, but should also play all old cartridges. Titles include Alien Storm, Crack Down, Fatal Labyrinth, Golden Axe and Sonic And Knuckles. You can pre-order the Mega Drive for only £37.99 (~$53.00) with free shipping and expect a delivery date of April 24.

Console Downloads: Super Street Fighter Puzzle HD Remix

This week on XBox Live Arcade comes the anticipated and graphically enhanced arcade cult classic Super Street Fighter Puzzle HD Remix. In addition to upping the graphical fidelity on the game, Capcom has also rebalanced the game with the new X’ mode, although the original version will also be available. The game will cost 800 Microsoft Points.
On Wii‘s Virtual Console this week seems to be sequel week, with the Contra sequel Super C (previously available on XBox Live Arcade) for 500 Wii Points, the SNES role-playing classic Breath of Fire II for 800 Wii Points and the Sega Genesis version of Ghouls n’ Ghosts, the follow-up to Ghosts n’ Goblins for another 800 Wii Points.
Director of ‘The Cell’ Attached to Condemned Movie

A movie based on the game Condemned: Criminal Origins is in production and the director of the visually arresting 2000 movie The Cell, Tarsem Singh, is set to helm. The movie, which is shooting under the title ‘Unforgettable’, was written by one of the writers of the TV show The Shield, Kurt Sutter and is currently slated for 2008.
Singh hasn’t done much feature film work beyond The Cell, but while that movie didn’t exactly set any box office records, it did have a compelling atmosphere which bodes well for adapting the moody game. So far no actors have been associated with the feature, and it isn’t clear how closely Sutter’s script follows the plot of the game. However, with the movie not even bothering to try and capitalize on the brand recognition (minor though it may be), it could easily be one of those “inspired by” rather than “based on” kinds of projects.
And of course you can always count your lucky stars that so far Uwe Boll’s name hasn’t come up in association with the project in any way.

Morrowind Headlines New List Of Backwards Compatible Xbox Games On Xbox 360

It’s about time – finally, Xbox 360 owners who weren’t fortunate enough to play The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind on Xbox or PC can now do so on Xbox 360. The update brings the total number of back compat Xbox games to over 300. And all games are upscaled, so those who have been waiting to play NBA Live 2002 in 720p or 1080i can now do so.

Over on Gamerscore Blog, a list has been posted with all of the games being shown at E3 that will be available this year. Xbox 360 games, Xbox Live Arcade games, Games for Windows-branded titles, and Games for Windows Live-enabled games. It’s a lot to digest, and with big name games like BioShock, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Guitar Hero III, Sonic the Hedgehog (the original, don’t worry), Puzzle Quest, Company of Heroes: Opposing Forces… let’s just say there’s something for nearly everyone.

I’m going to come right out and say it: I’m coming away from Sony’s presentation more impressed than I was either Nintendo’s or Microsoft’s. They were very straightforward and showed exactly what we all wanted to see: the games.

E3 2007: Golden Axe, Sonic The Hedgehog On Live, Marathon 2 And More On The Way

Announced during Microsoft’s press conference not long ago, Genesis classics Sonic The Hedgehog and Golden Axe are now available for Live Arcade. Sweetening the surprise is the pricing; they’ll only cost you five bucks (400 Microsoft Points) each, exactly three dollars less than their $8 Wii Virtual Console counterparts. Sega’s giving 360 owners a discount.
Also announced via the same Live Arcade footage reel was Marathon: Durandal. Development is being outsourced to Freeverse, a smaller Mac-focused outfit who’ve decided to remove the “2” in the games title. This is no mere re-branding: what was shown reveals a major visual overhaul. All of the games sprites and textures have been re-painted, resulting in a more polished version of what staunch Mac addicts got down on twelve years ago. No price or release details, but it’ll have a good home when it arrives: a Bungie classic reborn should sit well with the audience.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend E3 this year – instead, I’m on vacation in Cape Cod, using awful hotel Wi-Fi to watch streamed press conferences. Not the most glamorous way to take it all in, but exciting announcements, great games and new details are welcome no matter how you hear about them.
Here’s my personal transcription (in very brief form) of all the announcements and showings, along with some reflection on what Microsoft had to show.
