Xbox 360 Elite $299

It’s been rumored for weeks now that would be slashing the price of the , and it’s finally been confirmed. Starting tomorrow, the Xbox 360 Elite drops $100, down to $299. The Xbox 360 Pro drops $50, down to $250, but that is while supplies last. Once they are gone, they are gone. The Xbox 360 Arcade will remain at $199. Going into the holiday season, that gives consumers two choices for the Xbox 360 - the $299 black Elite console, and the $199 white Arcade. This brings the Xbox 360 Elite in line with the $299 at first glance, but of course, the Xbox 360 doesn’t have Wi-Fi built-in (that’ll cost you an extra $100,) nor does it play high definition physical media out of the box. Still though, it’s $100 less tomorrow than it is today, and that’s always a plus. You can pick one up over on Amazon.

Activision logoWe reported a while back how Sony had planned on releasing less new titles for PS3 and now we may know one reason why. Friday, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick released a report stating that it may stop making games for the Playstation 3 in the US. It seems that high cost of development and poor sales are the reason. He claimed that the price of the PS3 was too high at $399.99, compared to the better sales records for the less expensive Wii and Xbox.

If you are in the market for the , just make sure you stay away from GameStop. Why? Because they are charging you $5 more than any other retailer we’ve found that sells the device. PS2Just when you were thinking of retiring your PlayStation 2 in favor of a PS3, Sony announced at the E3 that they will be releasing 100 new titles this year. CEO Jack Tretton claims, “We’re committed to the PS2 for as long as users see value in it.”

It certainly doesn’t hurt that the 9 year-old console itself is only $99.00 and now perhaps others will opt for the cheaper game system. Tretton also said that there will be 35 exclusive games for the PS3 in 2009.

We know that security experts are fairly nervous of late and this video of Skyscraper Space Invaders seemed to really freak out McAffee. “Perhaps the first demo was just for fun, but the others will have less juvenile goals,” said McAfee Avert Labs researcher Francois Paget.

Yves Peitzner, director of Brainstormclub, the German company that produced the video, said that this was a promotional idea for a video game conference. They produced it even when the planners backed out. Two buildings in Munich were used and the game was added in post production.

Wal-mart KioskWal-mart is testing e-Play kiosks for automated video game trade-ins. So far they have been placed in 77 stores in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The machine scans a game, gives a quote and upon acceptance, credit is issued within a couple of days. The price is determined based on a proprietary algorithm that can change daily. If the test is successful, Wally World may eventually have them in most of their outlets and issue store credit.

Satoru Iwata

At the ass-crack of dawn, I got out of bed and hoofed it to Moscone South in San Francisco for the start of the GDC proper, kicked off by a keynote with one half of the fanboy’s wet dream, Satoru Iwata, president of the Big N. The line, as expected, was around the block, and I ended up passing the time by measuring my growing distaste for humanity before finally getting in and being seated. The talk, though, “Discovering New Development Opportunities,” was worth the wait. We laughed, we cried, we hemmed and hawed, and I’m not saying there were some tits, but I am certainly making the implication. Hit the jump for what you need to know about Iwata-san’s keynote, recorded moment by moment.
