Ads with sound hit Xbox 360 dashboard

Well, how’s this for a slap in the face? It looks like ads that have sound incorporated into them have come to the dashboard. As you can see in the video above, the ad appears in a tile, and if you bring that tile into primary view, sound automatically plays - even if you don’t select the ad. That’s pretty low, considering you paid for the console, paid for the games, and more than likely, pay $50 a year for an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription. Here’s hoping that in the Xbox 360 Fall 2009 dashboard update doesn’t bring even more advertising with it.

Yes, i know, it really upset gamers.. but let`s think of it also from this point..

You have to buy a computer, you have to pay for the internet, for the operation system (well, in most case) and advertisements are there (google have so much money from it)..

That`s today world.. and M$ need to have a step in this direction.. cos advertisement on internet is future..  that`s without no doubt (xbox is a great opportunity how to make money from advertisement) - you can’t block it

We can be glad, that they don’t put down bellow a scrolling line with advertisements..
Maybe.. there will be a subscription which will eliminated adds in the future..  but i see it as with the internet.. you will say that nasty words to advertisements, but you will take it as that it belongs to nowadays standards.

But maybe. they need to hear also our voice..  and i agree, that it don’t belong to the world of consoles.. but you know.. advertisements is today big bussiness..

You pay for a TV, you pay to watch it, TV has ads? You goto a movie you see ads? You pay to watch a sporting event you see ads.

Seriously? If you don’t want to see these ads, push the thumbstick and it will go away! I don’t understand why people complain about such minor things. They are not invasive, not all over the dashboard, and they do not force you to watch them. At best, I would say tha tthey should be moved into a specific area so I don’t have to worry about my 6 year old pulling up ads for “Drag Me to Hell” while scrolling around. I honestly thought that it was pretty cool when I first saw the title. It’s video running in a tile on the dashboard which I sometimes have issues with naviagting alone because it would slow down.

I think ads, when used properly, enhance the gaming experience. The Tom Clancy games for example (GRAW2 / R6:Vegas) have real world ads, some are dynamically updated, and it adds an extra bit of realisim to pull you into the game. I’d much rather see an add for “Coca Cola” than “SegaPop” or a “Tide” box on the ground instead of “Box O’ Suds”. Yes, it would be nice if they would subsidize the cost of the game but are you really not going to buy the biggest titles if they decide to have a Pepsi machine in game or if there a someone talking about eating at McDonalds? What about the Mt. Dew GamerFuel, should they not advertise that in WoW? I refuse to pay for a game after I buy it (ie. will not play most MMORPGs) so I don’t play WoW but the gamers that I know would brag about having it in their gear.

Get over it.
